This DVD is the movie version of a very controvesial work of literature. Criticized as anti-religious, I must disagree with this view. Through the adaptation process, most of the concepts of god and religion have been removed from the movie, thus making it a friendlier viewing experience for younger audiences. The story is a fantastical jouney of a young girl evading authority using the last artifact of its kind to aid her in her quest. I understand from friends who have read the book that it was not intended to be read by or to children.

A good night's fantasy adventure entertainment. Viewers would also be advised to view this movie with an open mind and make their own decisions. Watch it without outside influence.

Because this movie requires a certain amount of CGI, I liked the fact that it was used effectively but not overused. The supporting cast was also well chosen. Sam Elliot's performance was especially memorable.

The movie crammed too much into too few minutes. I think something may have been lost.
