Each book (there are 8 in all) focus on a particular theme and/or region of the world. Each animal is broken down with simplistic explanations on how to draw the animal. After the budding artist creates his or her masterpiece, the artist is encouraged to write a few sentences or short paragraph describing the animal and/or habitat.

The directions for drawing each animal are very clear, step by step instructions. Children are then gently encouraged to add to the overall creation by adding a background setting. The possibilities are endless for children to express their creativity. I also like the added handwriting assignment. It's very short, but gets the child to practice handwriting while having fun at the same time.

My youngest daughter has used at least half of the books in this series and has enjoyed them all. She loves challenging herself to draw a new animal, and is proud of her accomplishments when she completes the assignments. If you have a child or grandchild who loves to draw and create, I truly believe they will enjoy this book, as well as the others in this series. You will be amazed at their ability to draw realistic animals, and they will have fun creating and challenging themselves.
