Summary of this Book...
From choosing ingredients, canning, drying, freezing, creating jams and jellies, pickles, vegetables and more, this book contains a wealth of information for the home canner. Also includes tips on cold storage, a table of equivalents, and measurement conversions.
This type of Book is good for...
For the beginning home canner or the advanced, this book contains something for everyone regardless of skill level.
I especially liked... | ||
This book has become one of my favorites over the years and I refer to it on a regular basis when preparing fresh foods from my garden. I love the variety of recipes in this book, from the simple blackberry jam and apple-plum butter recipes to the more advanced and unique recipes. Each year I attempt something new, and I have this book to thank for bringing out the creative side of my gardening.
I didn't like... | ||
The only thing that would make this book even better than it is would be the addition of color photographs. While I like the quaintness of hand drawn images in certain sections of the book, color photos of finished products would be incredibly beautiful and might even inspire the reader to attempt some of the recipes they aren't familiar with.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Cook, cook and cook some more.
The author of this Book...
Carol W. Costenbader does a fantastic job of explaining how to preserve a variety of food. Her writing style is relaxed, enjoyable and very clear to the reader.
I recommend this Book because...
This is an excellent book for those who enjoy preserving/canning foods. The book covers everything one needs to know including recipes, safety, choosing the right equipment, and fresh verses supermarket produce.
