Michael Curry has an accident and almost drowns. He is rescued by a beautiful woman but not before he experiences a vision and is given a task to perform. When he wakes in the hospital, he can't remember what he must do, but he feels compelled to discover his mission. The story, which is rich with drama and romance, and one of good challenging evil, brings Michael together with a family of witches in New Orleans, and the quest he must complete.

Readers who enjoy fantastical stories of sorcery with heavy emphasis on romance and history will love this book.

The story within the story takes the reader back to the first Mayfair witch in the 1600s, and follows every generation of the family history. The book is one of brilliantly written fiction that reads like fact.

Anne Rice is the author of this book. Her talent for building authentic and realistic characters who have supernatural powers is hypnotic.

This is one of my favorite books, and everyone I have sent a copy to read it and raved.
