This story, set in a small Mississippi town in the 1950s, centers around Even Grade and Valuable Korner, two friends who seek family, love, and commitment they never had. Their paths cross through Joody Two Sun, a seer who helps them on their search that ultimately takes them to places they never dreamed they'd go.

Readers who enjoy literary-quality fiction will enjoy getting their hands on this book. It is an excellent read.

The characters in this book are colorful and vividly portrayed. The dialog is intelligent, and often written phonetically so you really "hear" the speakers' voices. The undercurrents and social relevance of this work are remarkable.

I felt a connection to this book, as if I experienced what the characters were living. The story was alive, and made me feel alive as well.

This was Melinda Haynes first novel, copyrighted in 1999.

The quality of this writing should be experienced by all. I found it by way of the Oprah Book Club list, so it comes highly recommended!
