"Cold Mountain" is really two stories; one of a civil war soldier's desire to return home to his love, Ava, and her world as she waits and wonders of his return. In my opinion, the story itself runs a little slow in some places. But the reason you read this book is because of Frazier's writing style. He writes like a poet; his prose fluidly rolling from the pages and intoxicating your mind. Wonderful.

A must-read.
