So this is a book about a young woman who has a kinky Achilles Heel....she finds her greatest pleasure in pain.

This is a summary for everyone, so suffice it to say that this is a great fan fic, medieval time theme, and an alternate world that is fantastic, unique and so well crafted you catch yourself looking at an atlas to see where it is.

The thing that is so interesting in this book, if you dig through the kinky obvious stuff (like the spying and the courtesan stuff and tough love and romance that will never happen) you actually find a very well crafted philosophical look at a human beings need to....well find comfort in unlikely places. You know the phrase "Glutton for punishment?" This is a very in depth (though subtle) look at why human beings make this a daily thing.

At face value this is an S&M type book....which I had to move beyond to the story, since that culture is basically foreign to me...however the humanity in the whole series spoke to me and pulled me through to the bitter end of the trilogy.

Fan fic, adventure seeking people, those not faint of heart.

Made me really look at myself on a number of different levels.
