A long night, when you can't sleep and need something this good to rock you into dreamland.

Samuel, Katie's Amish boyfriend, because of his personality. He's Amish, so he follows rules and keeps his personal matters quiet, but inside he is devoted and passionately in love with Katie. He's easy to sympathize with, because of Katie's actions.

The way people treated one another at times in the book. Sometimes they were nice, sometimes they were cruel. But given the mood and conflict of the book, I think this is beneficial. It lets the reader believe that the people are real;they're not perfect in any way.

Read it again, to put the pieces together. I had to look back at certain chapters to confirm that everything planned for the shocking conclusion!

I hadn't read anything by Jodi Picoult before, but I can't wait to read something else she's written. Her writing style is simple, a little unusual, but strictly to the point.

It was very well written, drew me in from the first paragraph, and kept the intensity at a steady pace that almost forced me to read more.
