Summary of this Book...
Famous Films? Well certainly "The Barkleys Of Broadway" as featured on the front cover, qualifies. This was the 1949 movie that re-united Fred Astaire with his famous 1930's dancing partner, Ginger Rogers. Fanciful? Yes, a nice poster reproduction of "Slave Girl" on page 1, fills that bill most adequately. This is the 1947 movie that marked that marked the debut (and alas, only appearance) of Humpy, the Talking Camel. Frolicsome? How about "Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops"? Fantastic? Hard to go past "Alice in Wonderland".
This type of Book is good for...
all classic movie fans. And I do mean ALL!
I especially liked... | ||
There are so many features I like in this 258-page, large format book, it's hard to make a selection, but I'll go with "High Noon", "Five Fingers", "Alias Nick Beal", "The Quiet Man", "Sleepers West", "The Man Who Knew Too Much", "Quo Vadis", "It's in the Bag", "The Tall Target", "Underwater", "The Narrow Margin", "The Fugitive", "Arabian Nights", "A Foreign Affair", "The Sundowners", "Oklahoma" and "From Here to Eternity" just for starters.
I didn't like... | ||
"Rope". Not one of my favorite Hitchcock movies, even though he is working with his favorite star, James Stewart.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
buy many of these great movies on DVD!
The author of this Book...
really knows his movies. In addition to his insightful comments, he also provides full cast and credit details, plus release and background information.
