Summary of this Book...
Either with tough love or with a gentle touch, Wisdom of Our Fathers speaks to everyone through many heartfelt and unforgettable anecdotes and first-hand accounts of father–child relationships.

An exchange of wisdom always takes place between fathers and their children. All children, sons or daughters, carry something of their fathers inside their hearts, even those who had a limited experience with their fathers; for each experience or each reminiscence is a treasure that clamps as a vignette on the memory.

Tim Russert, the author, after publishing Big Russ and Me about his own father, received tens of thousands of reader mails from people who told stories about their fathers. He put this book together from the excerpts of some of those reader experiences. The author starts the book with a memory of his own and a sentence that epitomizes what this book is about. "Small moments? It's often those little gestures-a knowing look, a pat on the back, an unexpected kindness-that make a big impression and shape our favorite memories."

After the introduction and before the epilogue and acknowledgments, twenty sections are listed in the book, such as: Honor, Mr. Mom, Being There, Loss, Forgiveness, The Provider, Missing Dads, The Protector, Tolerance, Discipline and Father Knows Best. Each section is significant and meaningful and offers moving memories. For instance, in the Being There section, Russell indicates that ninety-nine percent of parenting consists of being available. Consequently, most of the tender and positive memories about fathers are about their listening ability and their gentle guidance of their children either by example or by simple actions.
This type of Book is good for...
a Father's Day gift or for reading touching anecdotes, positive or negative.
I especially liked...
the forgiveness section.
The author of this Book...

Tim Russert passed away from a heart attack on June 13, 2008.
I recommend this Book because...
it is not only for praising fathers but also for expressing the gratitude the offspring carry in their hearts lifelong, and it points out values that can be forwarded from generation to generation.
Further Comments...
This book is a legacy left to all the fathers and their children, as a gentle encouragement for respecting and cherishing each other, and to fathers, for becoming the most loving and efficient parents they can be.
