The conclusion to the Gemma Doyle Trilogy neatly ties together old plot threads and characters into a satisfying conclusion. Gemma must once again make difficult choices, choosing between her friends and her duties as she learns to conquer her magic.

This novel is historical fantasy for Young Adult readers. Probably not appropriate for children under 13. There are scary moments and adult thematic material.

Libba Bray has an astonishingly fresh narrative voice, and at times, beautiful language as well. I also loved the way the plot tied together.

The novel does get frustrating because Gemma never knows who to trust. A few portions of the book could have easily been cut down, and did not add much to the story.

go back and read the first two novels in the series, A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels.
