The first offering from Marvel Studios, Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist playboy who spends most of his time with beautiful women - living the high life - while his weapons are sold off to mercenary armies around the world.

After being wounded and captured in Afghanistan during a weapons demonstration, he's forced by his captors to create weapons for them. Instead, he builds himself a power source and a suit of armor that he uses to escape.

Upon his return to the U.S., after seeing his weapons used for evil rather than good, he commits his life to protecting those who he's put in harm's way with his cavalier attitude. He designs an upgraded suit of armor for himself, but then must face an enemy who's designed their own suit based on his work...

Robert Downey, Jr. is brilliant as Tony Stark. He accurately captures the demons this character struggles with, and the movie really sets up an opportunity for this franchise to expand and explore many of the other aspects to this wonderful character and his adventures.

One of the best superhero movies out there, Iron Man is a fun, exciting adventure that is just as good upon subsequent viewings. Most importantly, it's a respectably adaptation of the source material.
