Summary of this Book...
A follow-up to the anthology, "Song of the Wayward Wind", this new collection features 78 poems by award-winning Poet of the Year, Margaret Havill Reid. Of the 78 poems selected from over 1,200 that Margaret left behind, only 7 or 8 have been previously published. Also, unlike "Song of the Wayward Wind", care has been taken to make this selection suitable for all ages, in both words and illustrations.
This type of Book is good for...
everyone that loves fine poetry. There is verse here for every taste, whether it be romantic, humorous, descriptive, political, argumentative or philosophic.
I especially liked... | ||
I especially like "Loving You": That I find peace with you and that you are, to my senses a singing field of joy, a warm summer of delight is, in itself some kind of miracle Who could resist such verses?
I didn't like... | ||
"Po-et-Tree Blooos" but Margaret loved satirical songs of this sort, so I did include one of them!
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
enter some of my own poems in the $5,550 Margaret Reid Prize for Traditional Verse. I can write almost as well on similar topics, though I can't match her humorous or her political verses. But of course, as her executor, I'm disqualified.
This Book made me feel...
glad to have known such a wonderful poet and to have experienced all the facets of her creativity at first hand.
The author of this Book...
made me desire to emulate her deep feeling and to write verse of a similar high standard.
I recommend this Book because...
it is a must reading for all poets, young or old, experienced or newbies, politically committed or content to sit on the sidelines.
Further Comments... | ||
This anthology is also must reading, of course, for all intending entrants in the annual $5,550 Margaret Reid Prize for Traditional Verse. Poems of every genre and category included in this book are eligible. That includes not only popular 19th century forms of metrical, rhyming verse, but 18th and 20th century styles of free verse as well!
