Once Upon a Beltane Eve... by Selene Silverwind. Spilled Candy Books: Niceville, FL. 2001.
I had heard about this book quite sometime ago, but never even knew what it was about. Recently, I broke down and decided to order several books from Spilled Candy, as I’ve noticed they publish a good sized selection of Pagan fiction – something that isn’t real easy to come by, and really isn’t highly advertised either.

This book is just....well....rather awesome. In the world of Fiona and Julian, Paganism is the dominate religion. The dangerous cults are groups of fanatical Christians, which I both like and don’t like at the same time. I don’t like the way Christians look at Pagans as being cult –like, so I don’t necessary like putting someone else into that spotlight, but at the same time, it shows how the dominate religion believes that any other religion is “wrong”.

This story begins with Fiona and Julian meeting in person for the first time at a festival for Beltane, and progresses as their relationship does.

Some times I really like Fiona, and at other times she does or says something that seems just plain rude or silly. Usually she comes around and sees the error of her behavior, yet it does kind of feel like she always gets her way. You almost have to wonder if Sarah, one of the Christian fanatics is correct when she says Fiona has cast a spell on Julian.

I really did enjoy the story with it’s futuristic twist to it. This one is totally different and well worth the read.
