I find it interesting that the title of this book says “Magickal Spirit”, yet Lord Foxglove uses a slightly different term – “Shadow Spirit”. I can only assume either he or the publishers thought the term “Shadow Spirit” in the title might scare people off.

I was disappointed in this book, as I found some of the concepts in here that he considered to be advanced, actually rather basic.

I also had a problem with the way he emphasizes over and over, how it’s up to each person to choose their own path, to practice the way they want, and then he turns around and tells them how they should do it.

I really feel the material in this book could have been presented in a much better way, the author’s attitude in his writing is a put-off.

Some of his ideas make sense, while others I found to be off base. Yes, anyone practicing the craft should know about negative energies, and how to recognize them, and perhaps even learn how to use it in case of some unforeseen emergency. But to imply that we need to learn how to use negative energy partly because if we tap into positive energy all the time we will run out of it, just seems ridiculous to me. As long as there is life on earth, we will have positive energy. It’s produced daily by every living creature, every organism, right down to each and every single blade of grass.

But as I said, some of his concepts do make sense. This one is really going to be up to each individual as to weather or not they want to get involved with this book. The word “Aligning” in the title, may have made more sense being replaced with “Balancing”.

What is important to know before buying this book, is if you follow Foxglove’s instructions you will be taken not one, but several walks on the darkside and learning how to incorporate it into your magickal practices.
