Summary of this Book...
The Road is the account of a man and his son's journey South in a post-apocalyptic world. I was struck by the fact that the two characters remain nameless and that the events leading up to the end of the world are not included - and yet you do not miss either of these details. They are not needed and aren't important to the plot. McCarthy brings the end of the world to the reader, and it is disturbing. There is one moment in the book in which the man opens a locked door (I won't go into any detail, but...), it really hit home humankind's desperation and made me stop reading for a second to take the idea in (and a missed breath or two).
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I really want to go and see the film adaptation of this book now. And I can only hope that it lives up to the standards that McCarthy has set.
The author of this Book...
The raw emotional writing style that Cormac McCarthy uses is pretty special - and keeps you gripped right through to the last page. I did not want to put this down.
I recommend this Book because...
For a heart-wrenching and raw read that deals with a man's bond with his son in an unthinkable setting, this book is amazing and the reader will definately not be disappointed. It comes highly recommended.
