boy, crazy reflects the work of an author who has done her research in order to learn about the bizarre tragic profile of a serial killer. The histories of actual serial killers such as Henry Lee Lucas are worked into the story. However the writing tends to be somewhat disjointed in places. Metaphors are a little strong as if Lahey believes we need to be hit over the head with them.
Some unique traits are the meanings behind the character names, detailed in a names index. An interesting twist at the conclusion of the story is unexpected.

The author's voice. It moved between the first and third narrator, weakening the effectiveness of the boy's delusions.
