Summary of this Book...
This is a novel about a couple who plans to skip Christmas one year and go on a cruise. They do this because their daughter joins the Peace Corps and will not be home. Their neighbors are literally up in arms at the idea of them skipping the holiday traditions of the neighborhood. Guilt trips abound!
This type of Book is good for...
anyone is is skeptical about the true meaning of Christmas.
I especially liked... | ||
the character of Luther Krank. I felt his pain.
The author of this Book...
tells a funny, satirical tale about the holidays.
I don't recommend this Book because...
although it was amusing, there wasn't much too it. As in a lot of John Grisham's stuff, the ending is too pat and neat. It is all tied up in a bow after you get hammered with how Christmas in this neighborhood is all about competitions and such.
Further Comments... | ||
I read the book because it was entertaining and funny, but in the end I thought it was kind of a waste of talent and time. It was a little too slapstick for me.
