Summary of this Book...
This story takes place in the low country of South Carolina. It involves a young woman named Beth who takes a year to house-sit for her family. The house in question is haunted by the ghosts of family and beloved friends. In her time there, Beth learns a lot about life and love and judging people by the content of their character and not by the way they look.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who loves the low country. Dorothea Benton Frank writes a good story and her characters are believable and full of gentle humor.
I especially liked... | ||
the character of Woody.
I didn't like... | ||
the abrupt tie-up ending. I won't give it away, but I did not care for the family contortions at the end of the book.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read another Dorothea Benton Frank novel - hope she writes another one soon since this one just came out in paperback.
This Book made me feel...
like returning to Pawley's Island, which is the title of one of her books and a place I love in the low country.
The author of this Book...
knows how to write about endearing characters who have humor and heart.
I recommend this Book because...
it is a good story with characters that you care about as a reader. I got more into it as I read along - it took me a while to get into it and to care about Beth.
Further Comments... | ||
This is not my favorite book by this author, but it is a good story and I wasn't sorry that I stuck with it until the end. You come to care about her characters with all their foibles and idiosyncracies. I love this area of the country and maybe one day I will be lucky enough to go back there. I hope so.
