This is the story of a CBS affiliated journalist who was kidnapped by the Taliban in Pakistan in 2008. The only other American Journalist that had this happen was Daniel Pearl. Mr. Van Dyk survived his ordeal.

anyone who doubts whether or not that the Taliban is a bunch of thuggish criminals who pretend to be "religious."

the irony of the fact that Mr. Van Dyk is glad to be with (at the end) the American Military that he so thoughtlessly disdains. It presents quite a conflict for him.

the fact that he wants to feel close to his captors. I did not get that at all. He did not succeed in trying to be "one of them," in the slightest.

trade it in and never go anywhere out of the great U.S.A!

like Americans really do care for each other in extraordinary ways.

is a good and honest writer. I just wish he wasn't so hostile toward the U.S. Military that makes this country safe for him to write his books.

it shows just how low these Taliban guys are and how backward they are in their attitudes towards women and just about everything else.
