Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the story of Fanny Brice and the movie musical that won Barbra Streisand her Oscar. Fanny falls in love with and married older sophisticated man, Nicky Arnstein. He is a professional gambler and their relationship suffers because of his career ups and downs. While she becomes a big star of the Zeigfeld Follies, he loses his shirt. Literally. This is a great musical.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who enjoys Barbra Streisand's singing. There is plenty to enjoy.
I especially liked... | ||
the first half of the movie. It is joyous and full of great music.
I didn't like... | ||
the second half of the movie. It is melodramatic, ponderous and depressing.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
watch Hello Dolly. Between the two musicals, I prefer that one.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is good, mostly. I have to say that I found Omar Sharif to be a bit boring for Fanny. He seems to old and boring for Barbra Streisand's character to fall for.
I recommend this DVD because...
of the great songs like People, Don't Rain on My Parade, Second Hand Rose and I'm the Greatest Star. Barbra Streisand give a good performance, although even she overacts in the 2nd half of the movie. I guess that was what the Motion Picture Academy liked in 1969.
Further Comments... | ||
I give it a "4" for overall quality because of the music and Barbra Streisand's performance.
