"The Book of Summers" opens with the main character Beth - or Erzsi as we come to know her, receiving a package which angers and upsets her and opens up a past she has tried her best to put behind her of a childhood of summers in Hungary where she meets her first love. However, all is not as it seems and there is a twist in the tale that Erzsi can neither comprehend nor recover from.....

People who like a lighthearted novel with a touch of romance, and readers who enjoy a descriptive style of writing. A good holiday/beach read.

I met the author of this book at a book signing event in the local library. She seemed very nice, and was very well spoken, indicating she comes from a fairly privalaged background.

It is an easy read and there are some beautiful and interesting references to the landscapes and culture of Hungary.

I found the book reasonably pleasing to read but it was not the kind of book I could not wait to get back to when I put it down. For this reason it took me quite a long time to finish. The book felt to me more of a recount of somebody's childhood - which essentially it is - and although the story is not bad or boring I did not find it gripping.
