What Happened to Anna K. is a re-telling of the classic Anna Karenina. This version has the Jewish-Russian Anna in modern-day New York City.

I can't say that fans of the classic will enjoy this modern re-telling, because I haven't read the original. Anyone interested in the Russian culture and/or immigrants being introduced to the U.S. may find this book interesting.

the whole book. There was little I didn't like in the book. Although many will not like Anna K. (I don't think we were meant to like her), I felt sorry for her. It made me want to keep reading to find out what happens to her.

sad. The book is fairly depressing. Be warned.

it's a gripping read, one with characters you love to hate.

I think some disliked the ambiguity of the ending, though if you've read the classic novel, you know how it ends. I haven't read the classic, and I knew how it ended. Still, some reviewers have complained about not quite getting the ending.
