This is a mystery in the Inspector Lynley series. It is 1,000 pages. I quit reading at page 175.

this book. I thought I might like it - I typically give books 25 - 50 pages and if I am not into them I chuck them. I was going to chuck this one, but at about page 48, it got interesting. But it went downhill from there and by page 175 when I did not care, I decided to bag it.

I did not finish it. When I was done with it I decided to watch this episode of the mini series instead of reading the book. The character of Gideon (who dominates and narrates a lot of it) totally turned me off.

if after 175 pages I did not care (and I enjoy the characters in this series) I figure that most people probably won't hang in there for the full 1006 pages.
