Summary of this DVD... | ||
The Black Death tells the dark tale of a young apprentice monk in the 14th century England, on a mission to find a village that seems immune to the plague. He goes with a band of religious mercenaries to find a necromancer and bring him to justice. The Black Death touches on medieval religious intolerance and murder in the name of God, along with the horrors of bubonic plague and life and death in the 14th century. The Black Death has graphic scenes, torture, and violence and is not suited for young viewers. Great acting by Sean Bean, Eddie Radmayne (from The Painted veil-an actor I am beginning to admire), and Carice van Houten as the village witch. This movie is not upbeat and has a dark ending. I found Mr. Radmayne did a great job in portraying a young, innocent, monk, who gets twisted by the events of the movie.
This type of DVD is good for...
Learning about the horrors of the plague in medieval England, horror-action-history buffs, fans of Sean Bean or Eddie Radmayne
I especially liked... | ||
The mood established in this movie was brilliant. Dark, gloomy, depressing, and hopeless: fitting to the subject matter. The soundtrack tends to stick in your head long after the movie is over.
I didn't like... | ||
Too graphic to watch with people who are sensitive to this type of movie
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Read more about the bubonic plague
This DVD made me feel...
I sat there at the end and talked about the movie with my husband for an hour later. We still talk about it every time we watch it.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
Excellent acting by a splendid cast.
I recommend this DVD because...
Sometimes I like a dark, moody, violent movie with interesting characters and a unique setting. This movie is more complex then it appears on the surface.
