Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is a Spencer Tracy movie from 1941. I am trying to see a lot of Spencer Tracy movies since I read a biography of him a while back. This is a movie I saw in my childhood and it terrified me. It is the story of a doctor who wants to experiment with human behavior. He does the experiments on himself, but he ends up not being able to control when he turns into his monster self, which is Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is violent and pure evil while Dr. Jekyll is engaged to a beautiful woman (played by Lana Turner) and is totally good. The Hyde part of him sets up a relationship with a bad girl named Ivy (played by Ingrid Bergman with a bad fake Cockney accent). It is a sadistic relationship and she is terrified of him.
I didn't like... | ||
the use of the prosthetics because it seemed very obvious and hokey. Also, I think Spencer Tracy over acts the Hyde part of his character. As an adult it is not scary - more stupid then scary.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
are good actors, but it is a stupid movie because the special effects are so poor and there is so much over-acting. It is hard to believe that this is directed by the same guy (Victor Fleming) who directed Gone With the Wind.
I don't recommend this DVD because...
it isn't a very good movie, even though it has a great cast. It is just dopey. I must have been real little when it scared me so much.
