Summary of this Book...
Dorothea Benton Frank is a good writer - her novels are invariably set in South Carolina, near the Atlantic. This is the story of a family of strong women and how they cope with things in their lives. It is sort of an easy read. I read it in 2 days. She usually writes one that comes out every summer. This one felt a little forced to me. My quarrel with the book concerns the title and the ending, which is slapped together. The title only comes into play in the last 25 pages. I like the title, but I wish there was more of a cohesive theme to the book.
I especially liked... | ||
the way the character of the politician is portrayed. I think a lot of them are narcissists like this guy, Porter Galloway.
I didn't like... | ||
the fact that the date rape is so easily dismissed.
The author of this Book...
knows how to tell a story, with humor and affection. You end up caring about the characters and hoping for the best in the end.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I just felt that the author should have taken a little more time to weave the theme of the hurricane into the story more.
