Summary of this Book...
Carrie is not a typical high school girl. She is tormented by her classmates because she's different. Why is she different? Well, for starters, her mother is over-the-top religious. I'm talking 'a closet just for praying' type of religious. What is so satisfying about seeing the underdog come out on top? When Carrie realizes she has telekinetic powers, it's time for all of her tormenters to pay in quite an epic fashion.
This type of Book is good for...
This story is simply for anyone who likes vengeance stories. If you like watching the tables flip, it's for you. Plus, it's a quick read, so perfect if you want to get into King's writing but don't have time for his longer works.
I especially liked... | ||
I'm not usually one for fantasy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the fantasy/horror aspect of this story. I felt like it was tied in so well with Carrie's coming-of-age. It never felt cheesy, the way fantasy often does.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Go pray in my closet. Just kidding!
This Book made me feel...
I felt so bad for Carrie during this book. Her poem in English class basically sums it up, "Jesus watches from the wall, but his face is cold as stone. And if he loves me - as she tells me - why do I feel so all alone?" She has been raised to believe in a certain higher power and she's confused because she doesn't feel it the way she's told she should. Carrie is a very lost soul.
I recommend this Book because...
This is Stephen King's first book and one of my personal favorites. If someone wants to get into him, I usually suggest this book first because of it's length and generally easy content. It isn't gruelingly long or muddled down with details. There's a good balance in this one.
