Summary of this Book...
This story begins on a sour note with an incident of an unbelievable animal cruelty. When the dog and her puppies are brought to the attention of the skilled veterinarian Anna Dunlop, she does everything in her power to restore the animals to perfect health and find homes for the puppies, and also, to make public how their misfortune can be turned to fortune with the help of her friend Eddie, a radio personality. While doing all that Anna fights her own demons, her misplaced guilt, and her sadness. To say anything more on the plot would be giving it away. In addition to the main theme of animal welfare, many important, skillfully shown themes exist in the novel such as, friendships, relationships, grief, love, and restoration versus punishment. The only thing that I question in this book is the long speeches of Eddy. I wonder if they could be cut shorter and still the wonderful, quirky personality of the man could be shown. Despite that, the stories of the families involved and the love of dogs that spills from every chapter are enough to make this novel a winner.
