Charlie Gordon has an IQ of 68, can barely read and write, so is chosen to have his intelligence enhanced through surgery. It's supposed to at least double his IQ, maybe more. This story is told through Progress Reports Charlie writes.

If you want a book that makes you really feel something. It's quite a sad story.

The relationship between Charlie and Algernon. The obvious parallels.

It's also very cleverly written, showing Charlie's progress and regress through his writing and grammar.

Sad. Boy was it ultimately a sad back, reading about someone gaining so much and then losing so much.

This was originally a short story, and I read the short story before the novel. Both are brilliant.

It really makes you think about the way those are consider "dumb" are treated.
