Cushion is a porcupine in a petting zoo. The problem is, no one is allowed to pet him. All the other animals are being petted except for him. Cushion is lonely and so he writes a sad song. Then he decides to search for a wife, but no one wants him because he is too prickly. Alas, he meets Barb, the hedgehog, who also cannot be petted.

Pre-school thru third grade. A great book, too, for before going to the petting zoo or afterwards.

I enjoyed the pun-filled prose.

Lisa Wheeler says she has an awful singing voice, but she enjoys making up songs. She also makes it a point to use bad puns daily because they keep her sharp! She resides with her family somewhere near Detroit, Michigan. She advises not to hug a porcupine.

Janie Bynum is the illustrator and also lives in Michigan. She keeps her distance from porcupines.

I always enjoy Lisa Wheeler's books. And though this one isn't my favorite, it's still filled with funny puns and has a satisfying ending.
