Summary of this Book...
Maisie, star student and track star, is out for a morning run when her life is turned upside down. An electrical fire rains down on her, destroying part of her face, and scarring her body. After she wakes from a medically-induced coma, Maisie struggles with her new reality, unsure of who she is anymore. When she's given the opportunity for a new start, in the way of an experimental face transplant, Maisie agrees. The doctors may have been able to piece some of her back together, but the scars on her face are a constant reminder that she's not who she once was. She must struggle through grief, pain, and heartache on the way to discovering the person that she truly is.

This book is a great read for people who are facing adversity whether it be physical, social, or emotional. Young Adult readers will enjoy the writing style and voice.
I especially liked... | ||
The raw emotion explored throughout Maisie's journey. It shows the real, unedited side of recovering from a traumatic experience. I loved how relatable her character is and how much her story has to teach each of us.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to cry when I finished this book because of how amazing the story is. It doesn't leave off with a happily-ever-after, but instead with a promise for a new future.
This Book made me feel...
I felt a new understanding for people in Maisie's situation as well as the people around her. To see what she struggled with helped me to see that it's not the struggle we face that defines us, but instead the reaction we have to it that matters.
The n/a of this Book... | ||
Alyssa Sheinmel is a brilliant author who is able to captivate her audience with gripping tales of self-discovery, trials, hope, and love. She has quickly become a favorite author of mine.
