Summary of this Book...
This is the story of a woman who has doubts about all of her relationships. It turns out that her whole life was a lie and the people who she thought were her parents are her grandparents. The whole thing revolves around a young woman who got pregnant right before WWII and was banished from her home. She never knew her daughter and dies intestate in NY, when she really has a daughter and a grandson. Coincidentally, her grandson is in charge of the estate auction and he meets a young woman who is handling the estate for the State of New York. It's an entangled web of complicated relationships. Danielle Steel does a great job of getting the reader to care about the characters in her novels, in this case particularly Valerie, Jane and Phillip.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who just wants to escape for an engaging reading experience.
I didn't like... | ||
I didn't like that the whole Nazi interaction of Valerie's mother was glossed over like it was incidental to living a life in Italy. I have a hard time with glossing over that stuff when it was life and death to a whole generation and more. People were dying while this character was 'living a life with all the jewels, etc.'
The author of this Book...
is great at creating characters and keeping a reader interested.
Further Comments... | ||
The ending was a bit weak for me, but it was an entertaining reading experience that took my mind of my worries for a while.
