Summary of this DVD... | ||
This film is part of my quest to see movies that were released in 1939, arguably the best year ever for films. This is a story of a law and order deputy sheriff who doesn't believe in wearing a gun. To me, this is the most appealing performance I've ever seen Jimmy Stewart give. I don't get what people like, though, about Marlene Dietrich's singing. She, herself is charming and beautiful, she lights up the screen and is great at comedy and at fighting in the fight scene she has in this film. The two women really go at it in the saloon. I wasn't sure I'd like this one because I don't really like Westerns as a rule, but this one was funny in places and watching Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich interact was very entertaining. I have read that he fell in love with her while filming this, and you can see that all over him in his reactions to her. I loved it!
I recommend this DVD because...
it is my favorite performance (so far) that Jimmy Stewart has given. I've seen quite a few of them, but not all. He was an old man when I was little and I've never really seen his "appeal" until now with this film.
