I don't know why, but this movie is #5 on www.WhatCulture.com's "25 Best British Movies of the Last Decade." I'm not saying it's not good. I'm just saying, I have no idea why it's on the British list...maybe they made it? Anyway, here's a link to the list. Not all are obviously British movies, as you can see.

Anyway, this was an excellent (and better yet, TRUE--I LOVE true movies) portrayal of one black man who was kidnapped and dragged to the South to be sold into slavery. Some parts, such as the whippings, are hard to watch and if you have a particularly weak stomach, you may need to look away sometimes, but it's a great movie that shows you some of the horrors that were committed back then.

This movie is rated R and is 134 minutes long.

History buffs, anyone who likes true movies, those interested in the history of the South or slavery, those who like gritty movies, and those who like serious movies.

The realism with which they portrayed the events. There were times I found myself trying to figure out how they filmed something (such as the floggings) without actually hitting the actor.

Watch other true movies about this time period.

Very impressed with this man and his ability to not lose faith after all those years. I think I would have given up. He was a very strong man!

Did an amazing job! The acting was superb!

Although I'd recommend this movie anyway, I ESPECIALLY recommend it because it's true and it's important to have some knowledge of our history, both good and bad.
