Summary of this DVD... | ||
This was a case where I read a wonderful book and was curious about the movie. The girl in the movie is the one who has the dragons in Game of Thrones. The story is of a girl in her 20's who is devoted to her family and has a long running menial job. She is suddenly fired and has to cope with that and the demands of her unemployed family. She goes to work as a care giver/minder to a paralyzed young man, who once was a business tycoon who dated women who looked like super models. She brings life back into his existence and they teach each other quite a bit about living before he makes a choice that is devastating and controversial, to end it all. In the end, he gives her what she needs to live and she gives him what he needs to die. She does a wonderful job here and the movie was delightful, from start to finish. I would not have known Emilia Clarke was the same girl, if I didn't know it already. She was brilliant and so was Sam Clafin. Brendan Coyle (Bates from Downton Abbey) was quite wonderful as Lou's father also. All that said, the book is even better than the movie because the detail it provides about Lou's family dysfunction. You understand her predicament a lot better while reading the book.
I don't recommend this DVD because...
I loved it and Mr. Hooves loves it. It is rare that we agree about a romantic comedy. He usually thinks they are stupid.
Further Comments... | ||
The book, as I indicated, was a lot better than the movie. That said, this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while, mostly because of Emilia Clarke. She is very appealing in this role, much more so than in Game of Thrones.
