This book is a part of a mystery series about a Canadian Detective, Armand Gamache. In this book there is the murder of a much beloved retired school teacher in a village. At first it looks like an accident as she was shot by a bow and arrow. The investigation reveals that it is a diabolical murder. I like the characters, the humor and the development of the plot.

However, this is not a page turner. It took me a while to get through it and the ending was worth getting to. I got a bunch of her books for Christmas so I will probably try and read one a month now. We will see.

I like the character because I saw him played by Nathaniel Parker in a miniseries on Netflix Disk of this book. Picturing him (although he is English, not Canadian) makes the book even more enjoyable.

Ms. Penny has a lot of good quotations that I enjoyed as I read on.
