Working in a hotel in Cairo, the night manager of the hotel, and ex-soldier Jonathan Pine(Tom Hiddleston) falls in love with a woman, Sophie, who is attached to a criminal gang. He tries to get her away but ultimately she is found and murdered, and he finds her body. He sets about avenging her murder and in the process he is recruited by intelligence operative Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), who has been tracking down Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie) who is an arms dealer connected with the gang that killed Jonathan's love interest. The story follows Pine's investigation and the eventual downfall of Roper. The series is based on John le Carre's novel.

Anyone who enjoys crime drama.

The characters were all very convincing, from the stubborn determination of Burr to get Roper, Pine's desire to avenge Sophie's death, and Roper's arrogant and reptilian badness.

The casting was excellent, particularly Hugh Laurie, who excelled at portraying such a nasty villain.

Stunning scenery and beautiful cinematography complemented the action.
