Summary of this Book...
Phileas Fogg is a well-known face in London's Reform Club. He is mathematically precise in everything, and he has been said to have all the life of one of Madame Tussaud's wax figures.

At the Reform Club, he impulsively makes a wager of £20,000 with some friends to make the journey around the world in 80 days (now that the railway in India is complete), leaving that very night.

Mr Fogg and his servant, Passpartout, who he had engaged that very morning, set off on making this marvellous journey.

At the same time, there is also talk in London of the robbery at the Bank of England. Detectives have been sent to all corners of the British Empire in an attempt to catch the robber.

Detective Fix is hot on the tails of Phileas Fogg, whom he believes to be the robber.

Mr Fogg, his servant Passpartout, and even Detective Fix, have a whole host of adventures on this journey, from committing sacrilege at a temple in India, to rescuing a princess, to crossing the vastness of the USA in the dead of winter.

And, of course, Detective Fix finds out if Mr Fogg is the bank robber, or if he has trailed an innocent man all over the world.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone looking for some light reading. Although there is a lot of action and adventure in this book, Jules Verne has written it in a very leisurely way.
I especially liked...
Reading the descriptions of the journey. I love travelling, and so this really appealed to me.
The author of this Book...
Jules Gabriel Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright.

He was born in the seaport of Nantes, where he was trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a lawyer, but quit the profession early in life to write for magazines and the stage.

His Voyages Extraordinaires, a widely popular series of fifty-four adventure novels, is a testament to Verne's attention to detail in his writing.
