Lockwood the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange is told the story by the servant Ellen Dean. Heathcliff was brought into the Earnshaw residence by Mr. Earnshaw after he found him homeless. Heathcliff soon becomes a favourite of Mr Earnshaw. Cathy Mr Earnshaw's daughter becomes good friends with the boy but Hindley, her brother, grows to despise the boy. After their father dies, Hindley takes away all Heathcliff's privileges and turns him into a mere farmhand. One day after overhearing a confession from Cathy to Ellen,he leaves Wuthering Heights, which is the name of the Earnshaw residence. He comes back more refined to find Cathy married to Mr. Linton and thirsting for revenge. He ends up taking all Hindley's properties, and Mr Linton's properties depriving both their children. In the end he dies with no feeling of remorse to join Cathy the woman he loves.

I would have liked Heathcliff to die remorseful of all he did.
