Summary of this Book...
This was a highly enjoyable book about one family's journey to financial independence. They chose the path of extreme frugality but did it in a way that, other than working at jobs they didn't love for a few extra years than they wanted to, was mostly freeing and painless for them. *** It's the mom/wife who writes the book. It starts out when she was single and takes us through dating, getting engaged, getting married, living a "normal" consumer-driven life, realizing she and her husband are happiest in the woods, implementing their financial independence strategy, buying a 60+ acre homestead in rural Vermont and settling in to the community. She goes into a lot of detail on specific budget cuts and her thinking behind her philosophy. I found her writing style to be engaging and the book read more interestingly than some fiction books. *** Some might consider me an extremely frugal person so not much of what she shared as far as cutting costs was new to me but I liked how she said a lot of the things I think and feel in a way that makes it easier to understand for people who don't prioritize long term goals like we do. I admire her humbleness, openness and how she achieved financial independence at such a young age.

I especially liked... | ||
The chapter on how and why she quit wearing makeup. I found it interesting and, while she's very beautiful without any makeup (I shared a video on my blog where I don't think she's wearing any makeup; ironically, her photo on the inside back cover of the book appears to have her not only in makeup but with her hair professionally styled), it was still a big sacrifice for her.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Meet the author and walk with her through the trail she blazed in the woods on her property and chat about life.
This Book made me feel...
Like I wasn't the only non conformist in so many areas that I feel like one.
The n/a of this Book... | ||

Further Comments... | ||
I borrowed the hardcover copy of this book from my local library. After reading the book, I fanned the author on Amazon.com. If you can't tell from what I wrote above, I really enjoyed the book.
