The author's no-nonsense, no-holds-barred approach to telling the unvarnished truth.

It was really, REALLY long and parts of it were tedious to read as it felt like the author was sometimes trying to repeatedly hit the reader over the head with a point.

Read something a little less weighty... like a space adventure. Pew! Pew!

Like Americans owe a great big apology to a whole lot of minority groups and indigenous peoples.

It's worth pushing through to get a full picture of American history and the parts that a lot of history books and school curricula conveniently leave out.

While I found this book a little tedious to read, it was also really, really good. After reading a lot of histories that gloss over some of the more unseemly details of human history, it was fascinating to read a book that really got into the weeds on the times that humanity has been less than its ideal version of itself. I appreciated the depth and breadth of the research and recitation of history, but it was definitely LONG and frequent breaks were needed for me to finish it. I'm glad I read it, and I might even go back and read particularly good excerpts again, but it wasn't a "let's read this all in a single go of it" type of book for me. But I do still highly recommend it for anyone who wants a different perspective on historical events both familiar and obscure.
