“Too Much and Never Enough” is the revealing true story of why Donald Trump is the way he is. The book is written by Mary Trump, Donald’s only niece, who also happens to be a clinical psychologist. Her training paired with her unique insider knowledge make this book different from all the previous books written about the current President. Mary Trump’s tale exposes the inner workings of the Trump family in a way that I have not seen done before. She is eloquent in her descriptions and reasoning, and clear about the reasons behind the actions of Donald Trump. The man is a product of his upbringing. This fact is made so clear throughout this book, it is impossible to unsee once you’ve seen it. The book will make you say, “Oh. I get it now.” This is not to say you’ll be able to agree with or endorse the actions of the President, but you will be able to understand how they came to be. The book is all at once painfully sad and rage-inducing. For me personally, I was struck most by the profound dysfunction of the Trump family over even the failures and corruption. It was good for me to get this window into the inner lives of the Trumps and what went on behind closed doors if only to gain a better understanding for why the horrors we’ve seen occurred at all. This is not the result of one crazy person acting alone. It is the result of a long history of pain and trauma that ultimately put someone in a position he should never have had the opportunity to be in at all. The end of the book is also incredibly timely. Mary Trump includes commentary on the COVID-19 crisis and the racial unrest following the murder of George Floyd and what could have and should have been done differently on a federal scale. This book will surely go down in history. | ||
