Summary of this Book...
This novel revolves around the Casey family: Johnny, Ed, and Liam. It is a great exploration of families and how everyone has a role that they play. We see each brother mess up their relationships with their wives and families; all of them in completely different ways. I really like the way my feelings about each character change as the novel moves along. I go from not liking Jessie to thinking she’s a really good person, to being frustrated by her. Liam started out as my favourite brother, but it didn’t take too long for me to despise him. Ed, who was fairly bland at first, I think really screwed up at the end. Nel and Cara are my favourite characters. They are both strong women who are great role models. And, Ferdia … How much did he surprise me? We could all use a Ferdia in our lives. I wouldn’t say there is a big, fast-paced plot. This is a study of people, and Marian Keyes writes it as only she can. The book begins with the inciting incident where the family implodes and then goes back six months to see what led to this moment. It’s fab. Really well written. It's a really clever idea to start at the end, and then see what has lead to that point. I think it makes us focus on the characters and how they grow (or not). As always, Marian Keyes writes with a big bunch of warmth and humour. There are moments, she brought me to tears. Other moments, I laughed a lot. Brilliant!

Marian's narrative style. I will never tire of reading her words. You can hear her voice so clearly. More than anyone else I've ever read.

Happy. Warm. Kind of fuzzy.
The author of this Book...
Love love love. Marian Keyes is my favourite author. Her Irish voice is so clear. She is very funny, and she is absolutely heartbreaking in equal measures. Ultimately, though, I think the end is very positive.
