First off, I should probably say I'm going to be biased with this review because I absolutely adore Dawn French. She's one of my favourite people alive. So I was interested to read this memoir, written by her about her life. And what a life it's been! From growing up as an RAF kid, and moving around many times, to qualifying as a teacher, but then auditioning for a comedy spot with her friend Jennifer Saunders (and never looking back); it is a really interesting and entertaining read.

It's particularly interesting to learn about Dawn's life as an RAF kid because it gives some background to how and why she learned to act the fool and make people laugh, because laughter made people like you. And making friends when you didn't stick around for long was tricky.

The book is written in a series of letter to the important people in her life. The 'Dear Fatty' is her friend and comedy partner Jennifer Saunders. Apparently, Dawn's called her that since drama school. The most poignant letters were those to her father who took his own life when she was eighteen or nineteen. I felt the hole he left in her life, but she seems to have had a lot of support from her mum, brother (and Jennifer).

The part I didn't feel comfortable reading was the letter to her then husband, Lenny Henry. Also, when she mentioned him in the letter to her daughter, Billie. I felt a bit guilty for reading that, knowing that she and Lenny would slit a short time after this book was written. And she speaks with so much love for him, saying they worked through his affair (although she doesn't name it as that). She says they are stronger than ever and gushes with love for him. So, yeah. That felt uncomfortable.

Other than that, fabulous! I laughed so hard at some parts. Dawn's friendship with Jennifer shines brightly in this book. Also, her love for her mum, dad, brother and daughter. It was nice to read.

People who like memoirs/autobiographies. People looking for a laugh. Fans of Dawn French or French & Saunders.

The humour. I got a lot of laughs out of this book. But, also, when I finished the book I felt like I'd had a bit of an insight into Dawn French. It's very engaging.

The parts about Lenny Henry.

Watch some 'Vicar Of Dibley' or 'French & Saunders.'

Happy. Sad, in places. But, mostly, happy.

Dawn French. Comedian, actor, writer, creator of plus-sized clothing company. All-round fabulous woman.

It's funny. I know there will be something it it for everyone to relate to.
