Summary of this Book...
This is a very creative novel about a girl's love for words and books, with 1939 Nazi Germany its backdrop, and Death the narrator. Death is written as a neutral character (voice), watching, waiting and taking souls, and has an almost poetic perspective when describing things through colour.
This type of Book is good for...
adults
I especially liked...
I liked that Death was the narrator. He was a neutral character, not on either side. As the war raged, and people died, he was there to collect their souls. I also think it was quite funny that most of the books Liesel stole were from the Mayor's wife's library. Also she shows compassion when she hides a Jewish man, Max, in her basement.
This Book made me feel...
I felt sad that a young girl was made to fend for herself during war-torn Germany. I felt good about Liesel's compassion and her love for books and reading.
I recommend this Book because...
The Book Thief is a very well written and entertaining book. I think how Death narrated the story of Liesel, the book thief, really made the story.
