I'm not sure where to start with my feelings about this book. They're mixed. So I'll start with giving a rough plot outline.

Livy's best friend, Julia, is found dead in her home, having supposedly, committed suicide. However, Livy refuses to accept that Julia would have done that. But Livy is the only person to think that. Julia's family and other friends accept this easily. And then, Livy meets Damian, Julia's secret boyfriend. A secret boyfriend who she had agreed to marry. According to him, at least. This is where my first problem lay. Livy and Julia were best friends who told each other everything. But Julia had no idea that Julia had a boyfriend. This made me not trust Damian, right until the end. I thought he might have been the guilty party. Even though, actually, he seems like a really good guy. A little too good, to be honest. A bit saccharin.

Now, to cycle back to before this story began. Livy's sister, Kara, was abducted and murdered, and the case was never solved. Unbeknownst to Livy, Julia (who was originally Kara's best friend) had been trying to find the murderer, and she told Damian just before she died that she knew who did it. Cue: a search for answers in which Livy and Damian try to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, Livy is having relationship problems with her husband, Will. He cheated on her six years ago with a colleague, and she is convinced he is cheating again. As her relationship with Will breaks down, she gets closer to Damian.

I liked the plot, although it was a little obvious. That said, I didn't guess who the killer was, though they were on my radar.) The first half of the book was a bit slow in pace, and the end happened really quickly. It seems somewhat rushed.

My main problem was with the characters. I didn't feel like any of them had great depth. I didn't feel like I knew them all that well. I didn't care too much whether they lived or died. However, in the end, I did think the killer was presented wonderfully as a psychopath. That part was done well.

Fans of psychological thrillers.

The reveal of the killer. The psychopathic character development.

The pace. A lot of the book could have been cut.

Frustrated. Disbelieving. Angry. Excited. Suspenseful.

It is a worthwhile read, in the end.

It's a bit flat and one-dimensional.
