17 years ago on Halloween, Caithelden Breckwood (Caith) lost his best friend, Trask, who was brutally murdered, and in his pain, he turned his back on his hometown of Coldcreek. Now, he’s back (with a son, Derrick) as a private investigator to investigate the paranormal happenings at the Breckwood-owned retreat, Stone Willow Lodge, that threaten to drive guests away. Veronica Kent is the manager of Stone Willow Lodge, and she is also a woman Caith gilted all those years ago. Breckwood Industries is a huge company that employs Caith’s brothers, Aren, Galen and Merlin. BI, as it is constantly referred to, is owned by their father Stuart, who has been estranged from Caith, since Caith changed his last name to Lairen, following the death of his best friend.

readers who like romance with a bit of mystery thrown in.

I like the emphasis on family in this book; the brothers and their families coming together to have fun; Derry connecting with his grandfather and cousins.

I did like the love story, but didn't like the way it was written. So much between the pair seemed unreal.

There were too many close-sounding names which made keeping characters straight confusing: Caithelden's brothers were Aren, Galen, and Merlin. Galen’s son’s name was Balin.

It wasn't until chapter 16, when Veronica was thinking how nice it would be if they became a family, that the phrase "myth and magic" was mentions - thus the title of the book. I found the title totally misleading.

Quickly dive into another book by a different author altogether.

Like I was wasting my time.

The author seemed to drag out the story unnecessarily. The book could have been so much shorter, without going around in circles.

I think it would be fine for people who enjoy reading romance, and there was some excitement toward the end of the book. The family dynamics was good - how members reacted in certain situations and how they responded to each other.

It is so slow moving and not interesting enough to keep the reader's attention. I thought the book was going to be about magic and otherworldly events, but I was disappointed.

This book is first and foremost a romance, with a mystery thrown in. The mystery part of the story is slow moving, with no breakthroughs to what is really going on in the lodge until well into the second half of the book. I found it boring to read about odd things happening and characters just talking about whether or not it really happened, whether or not it was a real apparition, and the fact that no one has done anything to find out who is responsible.

Another book I read by Mae Clair was A Thousand Yesteryears, which I gave 4 stars. I read this book twice and believe that Mae Clair has the potential to write interesting books.
