Summary of this Book...
This is totally not what I normally read. I don’t like horror or fantasy. I’m not keen on supernatural, and I’ve never read graphic novels. However, I needed a book with a non-human antagonist for the 52 in 52 challenge, so I chose this. And, to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Gaiman’s writing is clear and enveloping, and I could picture all the horrific things Coraline was experiencing really well. One day, when bored, she opens the door she is told she must never open in her drawing room, and she explores the other side. There, she finds another mother and father, the same as her real ones, but with black buttons for eyes and evil and danger all around them. There is also other versions of her neighbours, all with the button eyes. Her only friend on this side of the door is a talking black cat.

Coraline desperately wants to get back to her real parents on the other side, but it is impossible to leave this new life. She must come up with a plan for escape. It won't be easy, but she knows just what to do.

I love the character of Coraline. She’s a brave girl who is unfazed by scary ‘people.’ The lesson of the book is to be grateful for whatever you have and to not always think the grass is greener on the other side.

After reading this, I would be interested to watch the film. Although. I also don’t like animation. But maybe this might be the exception to all rules.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone and everyone. Seriously, if I could enjoy it, I think just about anyone would.
I especially liked...
Coraline's spunky personality. I loved how her neighbours kept calling her 'Caroline' and she constantly had to correct them.
I didn't like...
The other mother is one scary person. I would have been scared if I were Coraline.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read another Neil Gaiman book. So I bought one.
This Book made me feel...
Creeped out.
The author of this Book...
Neil Gaiman. I enjoyed his writing style. It is clear and easy to follow.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a quick, fun read. It only took me a couple of hours.
