Summary of this Book...
This is a good, solid thriller. I’m not going to say it had the most unique plot ever, but it is incredibly well written. This is the story of a newborn baby that is found abandoned in front of a village library. The police begin a hunt to find her mother. However, when DNA comes back as the mother being a woman, Deborah Jenkins, who disappeared four years ago, things get even more interesting. The narrative switches between DI Gina Harte and her team who are trying to figure out how this is possible, and where Debbie is, then also Debbie and her captor and her attempts to escape. The characters are fabulous. They sell this story really nicely. Parts of the story show Debbie’s husband, Luke, who has been in limbo she disappeared, and their two young children, Heidi and Max. My heart just about broke for this family. For Debbie’s mum, Cathy, too, as she was still a big part of the family. I love that this family are so generous that they agree to take in the new baby, as she is also part of the family. There is lots of suspense and excitement in this book. The last third of it, I pretty much devoured in one sitting. The ending is brilliant! I did not guess the twist at the very end. Fabulous. All in all, a good psychological thriller. It ticks all the boxes, as well as the author having a real talent for writing beautiful prose. Perhaps, though, not the most original plot ever. But, who cares? It’s very good.
